Deep dive: First 90 days

"Will I even make it past 90 days?"

Your first 90 days as a life insurance agent decide whether you get a career or a story about the year you tried insurance. The difference is rarely talent. It is daily activity and phone skill, built in a specific order.

Why agents ask

Most agents who wash out do it early, and almost never because they could not sell. They stall in setup, avoid the phone, and burn their first leads while still learning to talk. A plan beats motivation, so build the plan first.

The move, step by step

  1. 1. Cap the setup phase

Contracting, E&O, CRM, and phone setup are one focused week, two at most. New agents hide here for a month because setup feels like progress and the phone feels like risk. Set a hard end date.

  2. 2. Build the skill floor

Before your first paid lead, say your opener and your top rebuttals out loud until they stop sounding read. Roleplay and practice calls count. Reading a script silently does not.

  3. 3. Dial small, daily

Weeks 3 to 6, run a short dial block every working day with a two-minute warm-up rep first. Log dials, contacts, and appointments. Consistency now beats volume you cannot sustain.

  4. 4. Ramp and review weekly

Weeks 7 to 12, raise dial volume and watch contacts to appointments, the ratio that predicts your income. Review one lost call every week and drill the moment it went sideways.

The mistakes that lose it

  • Spending week one designing a logo and a funnel. You are a phone professional first.
  • Buying leads before you can hold a conversation. Real prospects are expensive practice partners.
  • Judging yourself on week six results. The first quarter pays in skill before it pays in money.
Reading the move is half the rep.
