Objection deep dive: Funeral savings

"I have money set aside for my funeral."

This is the one objection where the senior is usually telling the truth. There really is money in the bank, and they are proud of it. Argue with the plan and the call is over. Respect it, then show what it cannot do.

Why prospects say it

They did the responsible thing, sometimes decades ago, and your call can sound like an accusation that they did not. The objection is pride, not resistance. Honor the planning first and the conversation about gaps becomes possible.

The move, step by step

  1. 1. Praise the plan sincerely

Most people never set anything aside, so this person is ahead of nearly everyone you call. Say so and mean it. You cannot show the gap to someone who is busy defending the plan.

  2. 2. Ask what it covers

Is that money only for the funeral, or is it also the emergency fund? Savings earmarked for everything is earmarked for nothing, and most people have never said that out loud.

  3. 3. Walk the timing gap

Savings can be spent down by one hospital stay and take years to rebuild. A level benefit policy pays the full amount whenever it is needed, next month or twenty years from now.

  4. 4. Protect the savings

Position the policy as the shield around the money they saved, not a replacement for it. The savings stays in the family instead of leaving in one week of funeral bills. Planners respond to plans.

The mistakes that lose it

  • Quoting funeral cost inflation at them. It reads as a scare tactic and they have heard it.
  • Implying the savings is not enough. You just called their proudest decision a failure.
  • Running the procrastinator script on a planner. This person acted decades ago and knows it.
Reading the move is half the rep.
